A family group pictureIn our busy lives, it’s easy to let fellowship fall by the wayside. But, it’s important to carve out time for friends and family - and other members of your church.

But, why is Christian fellowship so important? It offers a rare opportunity to connect with others who share your same spiritual values and belief system.

You might be surprised to learn that you can also cultivate those Christian relationships by simply fostering a more mindful approach in how you treat others with respect. In some ways, you might think of fellowship as the amount of time you spend with others. It’s also important to think about the quality of time spent, too.

If you’re thinking about building a stronger family unit and Christian community, here are a few strategies you might consider.

(1) Don’t judge their past.

Help them build a brighter future. No one is perfect and that is a given. You can demonstrate your respect by simply supporting their journey. During challenging times, don’t turn away. Instead, stand by their side. Show them that you have confidence in where they want to go. That is a powerful form of respect.

(2) Acknowledge their story by listening.

Sometimes the most powerful form of respect is delivered through active listening. Throughout the day, most people work hard to simply be heard. The next time you have a few minutes to chat with a loved one, simply be present. Don’t try to chime in at every pause in the conversation. Often times, you can demonstrate your respect by keeping an open mind and an open heart.

(3) Treat everyone with kindness.

You may not realize it, but you can touch the lives of so many people by offering the simple act of kindness and respect. You might not realize it, but the person in line at the grocery store or even a neighbor might be going through a personal challenge in their life. By offering a simple smile or a warm embrace, it just might make a profound difference in their day.

Man walking his dogDo you have a morning routine? Or, do you hit the snooze button a few too many times and scramble to make some coffee before rushing out the door? If you don't have a regular routine, take a few minutes to plan out a more productive morning schedule.

By crafting your own morning routine (and really sticking to it!), you can use that positive momentum throughout your day. And, it can be especially beneficial if you’re starting a new path of sobriety. By getting more organized, you can reduce your risk of relapse by starting your day with less stress and anxiety.

Want to craft a healthier morning routine? Here are a few tips to help you get started!

(1) Get hydrated! Did you know that if you wait until you’re thirsty, your body is already dehydrated? Instead of grabbing a cup of joe, replenish your system with a large (16 ounce) glass of water first. The health benefits of staying properly hydrated are numerous. It can help you fight fatigue, reduce your blood pressure, improve your skin tone and keep your weight in check.

(2) Make your bed. Did you know that the simple act of making your bed every morning can help you stay focused throughout the day? When things are in disarray, it can subconsciously add to your stress levels. And, studies have shown that you can reduce your risk of depression by setting small goals for yourself throughout the day (like this) and working to check them off your to-do list.

(3) Walk your dog around the block. If you are fortunate enough to have a four-legged friend, they can be part of your new healthy routine too! Take a few minutes each morning to walk a few blocks with Fido. You can enjoy a wealth of health benefits by getting a dose of exercise and fresh air first thing in the morning.

(4) Eat a well-balanced breakfast. Even if you don’t have a lot of time, it’s important to fuel your body with a healthy breakfast. And, try to stick with unprocessed, whole foods like fruit and nuts.
