By crafting your own morning routine (and really sticking to it!), you can use that positive momentum throughout your day. And, it can be especially beneficial if you’re starting a new path of sobriety. By getting more organized, you can reduce your risk of relapse by starting your day with less stress and anxiety.
(1) Get hydrated! Did you know that if you wait until you’re thirsty, your body is already dehydrated? Instead of grabbing a cup of joe, replenish your system with a large (16 ounce) glass of water first. The health benefits of staying properly hydrated are numerous. It can help you fight fatigue, reduce your blood pressure, improve your skin tone and keep your weight in check.
(2) Make your bed. Did you know that the simple act of making your bed every morning can help you stay focused throughout the day? When things are in disarray, it can subconsciously add to your stress levels. And, studies have shown that you can reduce your risk of depression by setting small goals for yourself throughout the day (like this) and working to check them off your to-do list.
(3) Walk your dog around the block. If you are fortunate enough to have a four-legged friend, they can be part of your new healthy routine too! Take a few minutes each morning to walk a few blocks with Fido. You can enjoy a wealth of health benefits by getting a dose of exercise and fresh air first thing in the morning.
(4) Eat a well-balanced breakfast. Even if you don’t have a lot of time, it’s important to fuel your body with a healthy breakfast. And, try to stick with unprocessed, whole foods like fruit and nuts.
